The Taupō Distilling Co. is based in Taupō, the heart of Te-Ika-a-Māui o Aotearoa (the North Island of New Zealand).
During New Zealand’s first Covid-19 lockdown in March 2020, Scott decided to have a go at distilling (New Zealand is one of the few countries where home distilling is completely legal, requiring no licensing or registration). In particular Scott wanted to distill Gin. This idea came from long summer afternoon’s at 5 Mile Bay (just out of Taupō, New Zealand) sitting on the beach drinking Gin and Tonics with friends, while the kids were swimming.
